In 2011, Jennifer White started ICT SOS out of a need that she saw in her community of Wichita, Kansas. After watching a local news reports on trafficking, Jennifer was horrified that this was happening in her own backyard and therefore set out to create an organization to support victims/survivors of exploitation with the ultimate goal to end human trafficking. Little did she know the impact her actions would have.
Today, ICT SOS has grown exponentially. Since its launch, the team has outgrown the coffee shop office that the organization once inhabited and has been relocated to the local Child Advocacy Center. This location puts ICT SOS in the optimal position to be of service to both law enforcement and social services.
One way ICT SOS has made a difference is through the distribution of Fresh Start Bags. These duffels contain hygiene items, clothing, blankets, and fast food gift cards which are given to individuals who are escaping abusive situations.
Additionally, the organization provides a prevention education program called Tell Your Friends that has reached thousands of students in the Wichita area. Through this program and The ICT HOPE Student Advisory Board, high school, and college students become on-campus advocates against human trafficking. The Next Step classes also help to match volunteers with other organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Oz Youth Homeless Drop-In center. Along with these services, ICT SOS hosts an annual 5k, the Race 4 Freedom, that draws runners from across the country and benefits direct service partner organizations.
